We visited Mesa Verde National Park near Cortez in southwest Colorado. Ancient cliff dwellings glow in the morning sun where the canyon bustled with people 800 years ago. Cliff Palace, Mesa Verde's largest cliff dwelling was built about 600 AD and inhabited for 700 Years. The Anasazi or Ancestral Puebloans left these dwellings around 1300 AD, possibly due to droughts which destroyed their crops and water supply. President Teddy Roosevelt dedicated 52,ooo acres as a national park in 1906.
